Philanthropy Turns Musical

by Chase on February 9, 2010

In light of the Philanthropy Conversation rolling around the last post, I’ve two links for you.

The first: Be the Drum — Top-notch Southern California acts come together to raise money for Haiti. 100% of the proceeds will go through OxFam to directly benefit those effected by the earthquake in Haiti. I can’t wait to get my hands on this compilation. The roster is quite impressive, if I do say so myself. #SeethingSoCalPride

Secondly: Face the Change — Emaline Media Group and Faceless International (of India-trip fame) collaborated to bring the second volume of this project together. The album is free, but they are taking donations. All proceeds go to support Faceless International. #ilikethem #alot

What I like about these two projects is the understated way musicians are doing their part by using their platform. It isn’t preachy, it isn’t asking anything above and beyond of their audience. It gives the people what they want (free music) while sacrificing the buck they’d make to give to a good cause. There’s a good dash of Awareness Raising in there, too (I call it slactivism) and let’s not forget about the trade off: publicity.

See? Doing the right thing pays.

You’ll love both these compilations, I’m sure of it.
If you don’t, feel free to hunt me down and let me know.

Wow just been here again, I like what you did with the site, Chase.:)

As for musician performing for charity, I really wanna do something like that. I did once but it’s not actually for a disaster, more like for a cancer organization here.

Andi, you should! It’s a great way to use your talents for a good cause :)

I love when musicians use their talent for a good cause. Makes me wish I was good at music :)

haha, I know what you mean. I wish I was a bit more musically inclined myself. Oh, well. I guess I get to be the one who enjoys it. :)
