National Global Human Trafficking Awareness Day

by Chase on January 11, 2010

There are some 27 million people held in slavery today. Slavery exists in every country around the world.

According to the 2009 State Department Trafficking in Persons Report, over 80% of those trafficked are women and children.

The US State department estimates that some 800,000 people are trafficked across international borders each year.

In 1850, the price of a slave in the Southern United States would be the equivalent of $40,000 USD. According to Free The Slaves, today a slave costs an average of $90 USD.

Take action today and remember all those around the globe who have been victimized by modern day slavery and who have remained Faceless for far too long.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Download this letter, take the time to buy a stamp and mail it to Nestle; let them know that you will not stand for their disregard for the rights of their chocolate farmers. Unfair wages and insufficient funds to feed their family is the price the farmers pay for our cheap chocolate.

Start reading one of these books today to learn the facts behind the modern day slave trade: Not For Sale by David Batstone or Be The Change by Zach Hunter. It’s incredible how your perspective changes after you begin to educate yourself. The information is out there and accessible.

Visit change.org to sign the petition to end the Adult Services Section on Craig’s List.
